A child and two adults were injured following a small plane crash in San Jose Saturday afternoon, the fire department said.

The fire department said the crash was reported just after 3 p.m. in the area of Capitol Expressway and Excalibur Drive. Two adults and one child suffered non-life-threatening injuries, but they were transported to the hospital out of an abundance of caution.

The plane’s tail number shows its registered to the “Flying Twenty”, a nonprofit flight club for San Jose state students, alum and faculty.  According to the club’s website, they fly out of Reid Hillview Airport.

The crash blocked traffic and forced Alum Rock Avenue offramp off highway 680 to close for a few hours. Neighbors say there have been other crashes involving planes flying out of Reid Hillview, but this is the first time one crashed so close to their homes.

The plane was towed out of the intersection on Saturday evening.

Authorities said no other people were hurt. The fire department added the crash resulted in a minor fuel spill, which was absorbed.
