Palo Alto tightens restrictions on overnight RV parking

Posted

Palo Alto is getting stricter with RV parking on public property, with more residential streets set to become off-limits.

The city has been working to curtail RV and other large vehicle parking on city streets.

New no-overnight-parking signs will go up around Palo Alto’s city limits, announcing parking restrictions on streets within 100 feet of residential areas, including areas zoned for housing and mixed-use sites.

There will be no parking between 8 p.m. and 8 a.m., doubling the hours when parking is restricted.

The city estimates there are about 150 RVs on city streets that people are living in.One issue the City Council will revisit is the 100-foot zone.

“It’s not just an arbitrary number, but I think that there’s some considerations there in terms of how you do the actual measurement of that as well and also how it affects each neighborhood,” Councilmember Ed Lauing said.

The council will return to the issue in two weeks.
